What Would Make Your City Amazing!!!

Amazing is not the biggest or the wealthiest, it is the dedication of men and women to a shared vision.  The 7 Steps to an Amazing City below, outlines the characteristics that can make your city AMAZING!!!

Amazing Cities
A

Attitude:  A positive attitude that is present, even in times of strife.  A sense that the city is destined for greatness.  When faced with adversity, the community comes together and works for solutions.

M

Motivation:  The city is alive and ready for the challenges that are sure to come.  A sense that if it is to be, it is up to me.  Proactive leadership, that looks to the future and develops plans and strategies to address potential issues.

A

Attention to Detail:  Leaders, staff and citizens are engaged to pay attention to the little things.  At every level of service, tasks are completed with a goal of excellence.  Letters are written and grass is cut with the idea that others will see and appreciate the time and energy it took to do it right.

Z

Zing!!!   I love this one because we all know what it is, but we don’t know  quite how to describe it.  It’s what makes the community stand out.  It’s the Empire State Building, the Saint Louis Arch, the fiberglass catfish in Belzoni, Mississippi or the hundreds of hanging flower baskets in Fairhope, Alabama.  It’s why you love your city or why you love to visit someplace.

I

Inclusiveness:  This has developed into one of the single most important issues for the future of our country and maybe the world.  Cities that have a welcoming attitude and open door will prosper in the global economy while others are left to carve up the leftovers.  With technology, people can live anywhere.  How welcome people feel will have more to do with success of our cities than location.

N

Neighborhood Empowerment:  From the largest cities to the smallest, most people relate to the immediate neighborhood in which they live.  From San Diego’s thriving Little Italy neighborhood to tiny towns in West Virginia and Alaska, people thrive in a neighborhood that works.  It allows for a sense of belonging and is the one way that cities can stay relevant.

G

GREEN AWARENESS:  Cities contribute millions of tons of CO2 emissions into the environment each year and waste billions of dollars.  Cities that are aware will be ahead of the curve and will be able to adapt to the changes that are part of our everyday life.  Great ideas are available in "Bottom Line Green-How America's Cities are Saving the Planet (And Money Too!) the new book by Jim Hunt and Mike Conduff.

Amazing Cities
SO WHAT CAN YOU DO?

The global economy is changing the dynamics of city leadership.  Consequently, doing everything the way it has always been done and holding onto traditional rules and practices only leads to shrinking budgets and job flight.

Instead of working longer or harder, how about working from different perspective?  Instead of incessantly doing the work of your city, how about focusing on leading it?  Instead of working from a frenzied state of mind, how about working from a focused, creative state of mind?

Let Jim Hunt help you create the vision for your AMAZING CITY.
